Beloved mother, devoted grandmother, cherished sister and friend, Shirley Jean (Powell) Wooten, age 79 departed this life on June 21, 2021. Shirley was born in Waskom, Texas on December 17, 1941 to Dessie Powell and Ruth Mildred Sherrod. Shirley is preceded in death by her children, Andrea Clayton, Tracy Vaughn and Schon J. Vaughn; her parents; and two sisters, Ruth Doris Johnson and Marsha Gail Johnson. She is survived by her children, Byron Butts, Carl Bryant, Ronald Eugene Clayton, Robert D. Bonner, Wendie C. Smith and Ruthie C. Vaughn; sisters, Autrye Faye Gray and Claudetta Johnson, as well as numerous grandchildren; a host of loving relatives and special friends. Shirley was a true entrepreneur and a jack of all trades. She was always very independent, spoke the truth and “kept things real”. Shirley was intelligent and outspoken (but in a nice way), and you never had to wonder where you stood with her as she was firm in her beliefs and values. She was never afraid to stand up to anyone, man or woman. She loved her family fiercely and was their “rock”. Shirley was truly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A time of visitation will be held for Shirley from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Meadowbrook Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 10:00am on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Meadowbrook Funeral Home with Pastor Franklin officiating. Interment to follow at Rosehill Garden Cemetery.
