Obituary

Beloved mother, cherished grandmother, treasured sister, aunt and friend, Phyllis Illen Oxman, age 83, passed away in Tyler, Texas on Thursday, May 19, 2022.  Phyllis was born on April 15, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri to Meyer Oxman and Ethel Coleman Oxman.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; bonus son, King VanDeventer, and nephew, Michael Oxman. She is survived by her daughter, Tracie Murlin (Michael); grandchildren, Chloe Murlin and Layne Murlin; siblings, Sandy Talamante (Martin) and Harvey Oxman (Karen); bonus children, Scottie Anton (Mike), Tisha Ford (Ron) and Renee VanDeventer; bonus grandchildren, Eric Welsh (Saige), Christopher Anton (Jessie), Jill Ford, Samantha Jackson, Laura Rogers (Trent); nieces and nephews, Michelle Quijas, Angela Coleman, Miles Quijas (Joan) and Andy Oxman (Joanne).

Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Church of Uncertain. She was the City Secretary for over 30 years.  She also worked at Motor Supply Company as a billing clerk for many years.  Phyllis was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan and attended the very first Superbowl they played in 1962.  She loved her precious family and was well loved in return.  Phyllis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Larry Frase with Texas Oncology in Longview, Dr. Rekha Reddy with Christus Mother Frances in Longview and the amazing staff at The Heights of Tyler.

A time of visitation will be held for Phyllis on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 1-2pm at the Church of Uncertain.  Funeral Service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 2pm.  Interment will be at Beer’s Field Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.meadowbrookfh.com.
