Peggy Louise (Watters) Boatright

October 22, 1941 ~ July 12, 2022 (age 80)


Beloved wife, cherished mother and treasured grandmother, Peggy Louise Boatright, age 80, passed away in Marshall, Texas on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. Peggy was born in Houston, Texas on October 22, 1941 to LeRoy Watters and Mary Schindler Watters.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gary Boatright; her children, Jennifer Schnepp and husband, Kevin, of Monticello, Indiana and Allison Melbert and husband, Miles, of Parker, Texas; grandchildren, Marlee Melbert, Mace Melbert, Sawyer Melbert, Beckham Melbert, River Schnepp and Pahdmae Schnepp.

Peggy was a 1959 graduate of Milby High School. She went on to study at Sam Houston State with a major in Chemistry. While at Sam Houston she pledged Kappa Delta and served as President. She continued to further her education in Medical Technology at University of Texas Medical School.  Peggy was employed by the University of Texas Medical Center from 1965 to 1967, Texas Institute for Rehabilitation and Research from 1967 to 1978 and LSU Medical Center from 1990 to 2002. 

She loved gardening, baking, her church and church family, as well as all those she came in contact with.  She was a lifelong Methodist and joined Summit United Methodist Church in 1983, where she attended services until her death.  She served on numerous committees, taught Sunday school for both youth and adults, and led Bible studies and VBS. If you were looking for Peggy, you could often find her among the trees behind her house.  She was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00am at Summit United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Summit United Methodist Church, 1901 Hwy. 59 N, Marshall, Texas 75670.
