Karen Schyla (Woodley) Hordern

January 21, 1949 ~ August 11, 2020 (age 71)

Beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother and friend, Karen Schyla (Woodley) Hordern, age 71, passed away in Longview, Texas on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.  She was born in Marshall, Texas on January 21, 1949 to Birdie and Sue (Harris) Woodley.  Karen attended school in Marshall, Texas graduating with the Class of 1967, attending beauty college after her graduation, and had worked for Atlas Credit in Marshall as a secretary for 20 years.  On June 18, 1973 she married the love of her life, Jimmy Hugh Hordern and they celebrated 47 years together.  She is preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Hordern; her parents, Birdie P. and Sue Woodley; her parents-in-law, Hugh M. and Ann Hordern; her brother, Bubba Woodley; her sister, Sandra Woodley and her brother-in-law, Dewayne Hordern.  She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Hugh Hordern; her son, Brent Hordern and his wife, Tabatha Hordern; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Brandon Scott Jordan, Brittney Pendergrass and her husband, Edward “Jake” Pendergrass, Lacy Hordern, Jeanette Elliott, Richard Elliott; and one great-grandson, Riley Jordan.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and many, many friends.  Karen loved to make people laugh and never met a stranger.  She liked having her time to sleep, liked to cook, play cards and was a mean solitaire player on her computer. She loved to collect pigs, was fierce and known in her younger years to smoke “Eve” cigarettes, but her true passion in life was her family and she was their number one protector, supporter and fan.  She will always be remembered by her unique sayings referred to as “Karen-isms” and will be deeply missed by all who have been blessed by her love and friendship.  Visitation will be held at Meadowbrook Funeral Home on Friday, August 14, 2020 from 5pm to 8pm.  Graveside service will be held at Pope City Cemetery on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 10:00am with Bro. Craig Evers officiating.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meadowbrookfh.com
