Obituary

Beloved husband, cherished father and grandfather, treasured brother, uncle and friend, John Wesley Grigsby, age 63, passed away in Marshall, Texas on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.  John, affectionately known as “Wes”, was born September 18, 1959 in Marshall, Texas to Harold Grigsby and Naomi Armstrong Grigsby.

Wes is preceded in death by Marianne Grigsby and his paternal and maternal grandparents.  He is survived by his loving wife, Stacey Shaw Grigsby; sons, Derick Grigsby and wife, Megan, Cory Grigsby and Kimber; grandchildren, Ty Grigsby, Jagger Grigsby, Addi Pinson and Lexi Pinson; parents, Harold and Naomi Grigsby; siblings, Kenny Grigsby and wife, Kaye, Brad Grigsby and wife, Dea Ann, and Jill Davis and Kenny, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who loved their Uncle Wes.

Wes graduated from Marshall High School in 1978 and married Marianne Blalock Grigsby in 1980. Wes and Marianne had two sons born to their marriage, Derick Grigsby and Cory Grigsby. Marianne passed away in 1999.

Wes is married to Stacey Shaw and they shared twenty years of love and fun together.  Stacey was a wonderful caretaker and wonderful wife to Wes. They loved spending time with their grandchildren and are affectionally known as “Lolli” and “Pop Pop”.

Wes was baptized at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Marshall.  He joined Immanuel Baptist Church in 1987.  Stacey and Wes attended Cypress Valley Bible Church over the last several years.

Wes worked as a butcher at Powers Grocery and also worked at Alcoa and then Pete McCarty Oil Company.  He built Marshall Lube in 1997.  Wes Loved to race dirt track and raced for many years with his brothers, Brad and Kenny, Uncle Max Green, and many friends along the way.  His greatest joy was racing with his sons, Derick and Cory.  When he decided to park his car, he became their greatest supporter and chief mechanic, aka supervisor.  During his racing career he won a number of Track Championships and Louisiana State Championships at Boothill Speedway.

Since his retirement, he held many self-appointed “supervisory” roles, including: manager at Circle Y Liquor, personal trainer at Planet Fitness, and resident handyman.  Wes took pride in taking care and checking on all of his “special buddies” around town, ensuring everyone had what they needed even if it was just them needing to talk.

In his leisure time, he loved spending his days going to Ranger games, watching his Dallas Cowboys, hanging at the pool with family and friends, and enjoying his annual vacation to Galveston with Stacey and all the grands.  He never missed an opportunity to attend and cheer on all his grandchildren’s many sporting events.

Wes was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.  A time of visitation will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00pm at Cypress Valley Bible Church and the Funeral Service following at 2:00pm with Bob Bryant officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Grange Hall Cemetery.  Serving as Pallbearers are Jeff Shaver, Bo Ready, Brian Newton, Justin Peak, John Mark Hartt and Paul Rust.  Honorary Pallbearers are Kenny Grigsby, Brad Grigsby and Kenny Davis.

The family would like to thank Primecare Hospice and Wes’s nurse, Leslie Boswell.  Also, a special thanks to Kelli Kirkland and Christy Faris.  Thank you to the supporters of Marshall Lube and Auto that have been patient during our closure so the family could spend every moment with Wes.
