John Lewis Davis, Sr., age 81, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 in Marshall, Texas. John was born on December 22, 1939 in Marshall, Texas to William Lewis Davis and Mary Kathryn Davis.
John, fondly referred to as “Dad”, “Johnny”, “Papaw” and “Johnny Papaw”, is preceded in death by his sons, John “Jay” L. Davis, Jr. and William Todd Davis; his parents, William and Kathryn Davis; and the mothers of his children, Peggy Kerr and Patricia Shaffer. He is survived by his children, Terry Davis, David N. Davis (Sarah), Sherri Davis Wilson (Tommy), James Lee Davis (Trina), Monica Bailey and Jay Bailey; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; siblings, Kathy Davis Pruitt, Betty Davis Shaw, Neal Davis and Raymond Davis (Ann); daughter-in-law, Janet Baker Davis, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends that loved him dearly.
Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. Johnny held his father in high regard and for several decades, he worked alongside his family at Davis Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal. He also worked multiple overseas jobs as a welder for Brown and Root, Inc. Johnny was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marshall. He was a truly adventurous man who loved the excitement of hunting, racing cars and planes and skydiving. Johnny often could be seen mowing the rooftop of his home and also keeping the ditches on Harkins Lane clean and mowed. Johnny “Lefty” Davis lived life to the fullest. He never met a stranger, was a friend to everyone and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
