Devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather, Joe Douglas Cummins, Sr., age 81, of Waskom, TX passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home on Thursday, March 5, 2020, after a lengthy illness. Joe was born on September 22, 1938 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Walter O.W. (Buck) Cummins and Ina Mae Avritt. He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 53 years, Susan Lee Cummins; his son, Anthony Lee Cummins; his grandsons, Christopher M. Cummins and Rhett Devolin. Joe is survived by his children, Joe D. Cummins, Jr. and his wife, Kerri of Alexander, AR, Martin K. Cummins and his wife, Tanya of Fredericksburg, VA, Susan K. Walsh and her husband, Daniel of Waskom, TX and Frederick J. Cummins and his wife, Marilyn of Shreveport, LA; his grandchildren, Rebecca Byrd, Salina Meyers, Danica Meyers, Joseph Cummins, Erin Cummins, Amy Devolin, Charlotte Hartsell, Kate Allen, Lara Tripp and Renee Bode. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Shaun Byrd, Jilly Tripp, Gabrielle Bode, Braydin Lopez, Alexander Carswell, Oliver Carswell, Adrian Hartzell, Elijah Hartzell, Maggie Pennick, Amberlynn Devolin, William Tripp; his sister, Sharon Kay Andersen of Lawton, OK and numerous other family members and friends. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army. He traveled many miles during his 45+ years as a truck driver, known to many by his CB handle as “Crazy Okie”. He was a story teller, who always had a tale to tell or a song to sing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making his own version of red hot pepper sauce, and loved riding his Harley, but his true passion in life was his family whom he adored. Joe’s life was well lived, he was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed by his love and friendship. Visitation for Joe will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home. Funeral Service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 1:00pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home with Joe D. Cummins, Jr. officiating.
