Jimmy Mercer, age 83 passed away at his home in Marshall on Saturday, February 6, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born in Elysian Fields, Texas on April 21, 1937 to Bert and Mattie (Woodley) Mercer. Visitation for Jimmy will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 5pm-8pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 3:00pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home with Debbie Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are Wes Caudle, Kevin Petty, Randy Beasley, Rodney Mercer, Charlie Morton and Marcos Gonzales. Honorary Pallbearers are Gary "Buckshot" Mercer, Buddy McDaniel, Harry McDaniel and Shone Petty. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Mattie Mercer; his brother, Henry Mercer; and his sisters, Louise Burt and Sybil McDaniel. He is survived by his children, Jack Mercer (April), Mattie Mercer, Amelia Perry and Elizabeth Wright; his grandchildren, Kevin Mercer, Cody Wright, Cheyanne Wright, Brooke Sturrock, Jaden Mercer and Ashley Woods; his great-grandchildren, Henley Sturrock, Lucas Sturrock, Ava Sturrock, Brooklynn Woods and Remington Woods; his favorite niece, Freida Moore and her husband, Joe; four brothers and sisters; numerous other family members and many friends. He is also survived by his four legged fur-babies, Reese, Chloe and Wrangler. Jimmy spent many years in the oil industry as a tool pusher. Jimmy loved sports, especially the Astros, the Texas Rangers and the Houston Texans. He loved horses and trail riding. He loved the Lord, was a kind man who enjoyed visiting with people and loved spending time with others. His true passion in life was his family and he thoroughly enjoyed taking his grandchildren, nieces and nephews places, always paying special attention to their needs and wants. He, like his own father, was very devoted to friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Pham and Staff, Dr. John Lijo and Staff, Texas Home Health and Hospice, especially Jerry Neel and Jackie, to the staff at Texas National Bank for all their kindness and for always putting a smile on his face and to the staff at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview for the excellent care given to Jimmy.
