Beloved husband, cherished father and grandfather, treasured brother and friend, Jesse “Jay” Cleveland Mathis, Jr., age 65, passed away in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 21, 2021. Jay was born on April 7, 1955 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Jesse Cleveland Mathis, Sr. and Myrtle Pamillia (Jordan) Mathis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse “Cotton” and Myrtle Mathis, and his sister, Myrna Hudnall. Jay is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Brenda (Roach) Mathis; his children, Jesse “JC” Mathis III and Ashley Prince (Kasey); grandchildren, Tyler Dykes, Taylor Dykes, Kaylee Dykes, Ethan Mathis, Jesse Mathis IV, Abbigail Mathis, Kenzie Prince, Anna Arnold and Joshua Prince; sister, Debbie Mobley; brother, Chuck Slade (Tammy), as well as numerous other friends and family members.
Jay proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later worked for many years as a refrigeration/boiler technician. He loved to hunt and fish and especially loved a good crawfish boil and gathering with friends. Jay was Brenda’s soul mate…and a kind soul. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and was always available to help others. Jay was well loved and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
No formal services will be held, however, a Celebration of Life (and crawfish boil) will be held in Jay’s honor in April at the family home (time and date to be announced when confirmed). Online condolences may be offered at www.meadowbrookfh.com
