Beloved husband, cherished father, devoted grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, James Edwin “Scooter” Cox, age 81, passed away in Marshall, Texas on Monday, February 1, 2021. Scooter was born in Corsicana, Texas on August 28, 1939 to Elda and Essie Cox. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Loran Cox, and his mother-in-law, Mae Williams. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy E. Cox; his sons, Mark Cox and wife, Julie, Matt Cox and wife, Tammy, and John Michael Cox; daughter, Mindy Soape and husband, Jeff; his grandchildren, Addie Soape, Alicia and Ryan Anderson, Dr. Steven and Crystal Cox, and Morgan and Roberto Solis; his great-grandchildren, Brody Solis, Caden Cox, Carlee Cox, Wyatt Anderson and Walker Anderson. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Sikes; his brother-in-law, Larry Allen and wife, Bonnie; his nephews, Jimmy Cox, Ched Cox, Ricky Sikes, Allen Sikes and his niece, Angel Tettleton; and numerous other family members and friends who knew and loved him. Scooter graduated from high school in Marshall, Texas with the Class of 1957 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After he was honorably discharged from the military, he immediately joined his father in the oilfield industry, working as a roughneck. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Patsy Allen Cox, and together they raised four children. Scooter loved life and lived every day to the fullest. He loved hunting, carpentry and gardening. He was a designer, a planner, a perfectionist in his work. Whether it was growing vegetables, building things, cooking meals, or spending time with friends and family, he was passionate about the task at hand. He loved cooking outdoors…so much so that his patio was covered in grills. While outdoors, he loved to listen to music, all kinds of music, and always had it going on speakers he mounted all over his yard. He loved to be on the water and especially loved the thrill of the catch, but most enjoyed the time spent with all his boys while doing so. Scooter loved the Lord and had been a member of Summit United Methodist Church since the early 1950’s. In his later years, he spent many hours calling church members and friends to check on them, which in fact was the subject of his final phone call the morning of his passing. He will be remembered for the consistent and heartfelt love and care always shown to others. “I love you” was always in his conversations, and he lovingly expressed it daily in word and deed. He devoted much of his time to his children while being involved in booster clubs, school events and youth activities. Scooter was firm in the belief of blood donations, and over the years had faithfully donated blood countless times. But his true passion in life was the time he spent with his beautiful bride, Patsy, his children, and their entire family. His life was well lived; he was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed by his love and friendship.
