Elder James H. Burks, Sr. was born on October 14, 1942 to the late Arthur Burks and Rosie Lee Cooper in Marshall, Texas.
James attended Marshall Public Schools where he graduated. After high school, James joined union to Panzoria Allen Burks on June 6, 1964. To this union, 6 children were born. Shortly after marriage, James joined the United States Army. James spent 6 years in the Army, also fighting in the Vietnam War where he was released with an honorary discharge. James went on later in life to attend Faith Temple Church of God where he received his Minister license.
James loved to help people in his family and the community. James was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Burks; mother, Rosie Cooper; siblings, Arthur Burks, Jr., Lola Mae Reeve, Lee Dorothy Sneed, Valentine Marsh, Willie Burks, Sr., Rosie Odum, Betty Marsh and Roy L. Burks; and grandson, Robert Taylor, Jr.
James is survived by his wife, Panzoria Allen Burks of Marshall, Texas; 6 children, Dedra (Randy) Jackson of Shreveport, Louisiana; Rev. James Burks, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; Debra Anderson of Tyler, Texas; Little (Tyrone) Parker of Fort Worth Texas; Dorothy (Jerry) Harris of Dallas, Texas, and Jaqueline (Ricky) Dacosta of Garland, Texas; 4 sisters, Dora Broussard of Houston, Texas; Mary Louise (Frank) Williams of Houston, Texas; Zelma Burks of Sacramento, California, and Rose Woodkins of Corsicana, Texas; 1 brother, Roger D. Marsh of Marshall, Texas, as well as 19 grandkids, 15 great-grandkids and a host of nieces and nephews.
