Dora Jean (Glaze) Thedford

March 22, 1935 ~ November 17, 2021 (age 86)

Dora Jean (Glaze) Thedford, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, in Irving, Texas, due to complications from surgery. She was born on March 22, 1935, to John Henry and Clara Jane (Wilburn) Glaze in Shelby County, Texas. Dora was the fifth of nine children born to John and Clara. She attended school in Logansport, Louisiana. Dora attended First Baptist Church in Logan, Texas, and accepted Christ as her savior as a young teenager.

Dora married Billy Mack Thedford on March 26, 1955, in Center, Shelby County, Texas. After their marriage the couple moved to Panola County, Texas. From this union, they had three children: Linda Jo (Thedford) McLaughlin, Billy Gene Thedford, and Lorrie Ann Thedford. Dora was a homemaker, and very involved in her children’s school experiences. The Thedford family lived in various locations in Texas and Louisiana, settling finally in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas, prior to the birth of their third child.

Then Dora’s husband’s work took them on a new adventure to foreign countries. She successfully managed moves of the entire family overseas when her husband’s work took them to Trinidad, West Indies; Norway; and Mallorca, Spain. Upon their last return from overseas, the Thedford family resettled in Marshall, Texas. Dora and family also returned to Central Baptist Church in Marshall, where she served on several committees, and as a volunteer for various events.

Dora served in several roles, including President, of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, in Marshall, Texas, and volunteered much time there for many years.  She was a strong supporter of the US military and veterans of all branches.

Dora moved to Irving, Dallas County, Texas in September of 2019, to live with her youngest daughter, Lorrie Ann Thedford. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning and baking there, and most especially enjoyed her “grand-dogs”, and in fact said they were now “her babies” (although of the four dogs, Holt and Mimi were her favorites).

Dora enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, playing 42, card games, country and gospel music, travel, professional football teams New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs, and college football team LSU Tigers. She was also a fan of the Texas Rangers professional baseball team. Dora became interested in politics in her later years and was a particular fan of conservative news programs. She will be deeply missed by many who knew her.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Mack Thedford; her parents, John Henry & Clara Jane Glaze; sister, Sybil Eva Sartors; brothers, John Henry Glaze, Jr, James Franklin Glaze, Ervin Lamar Glaze, Jesse Weldon Glaze, Henry Elvin Glaze, Olen Fay Glaze; daughter-in-law, Leona (Ball) Thedford; and is survived by her youngest brother, Nolen Ray Glaze; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jo (Thedford) & Michael Gerard McLaughlin; son, Billy Gene Thedford; daughter, Lorrie Ann Thedford; grandson and wife, Michael Shane & Sarah Louise (Brown)  McLaughlin; granddaughter and husband, Holly Michelle (McLaughlin) & David Allen Wright; grandson, Billy John Thedford, and his children; great-grandson, Micah Shane McLaughlin; great-granddaughter, Briana Alexis McLaughlin;  great-grandson, Matthew Terrance McLaughlin; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Michelle Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
