Beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, brother and friend of many, Danny Ray Martin, age 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Marshall, Texas after a lengthy battle with cancer, on Friday, May 14, 2021 surrounded by his family. Danny was born on March 12, 1956 in Bernice, Louisiana to Elmer Ray and Joyce Williams Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Ray Martin, Joyce Williams Nutt and Kenneth Nutt; and his infant son, John Jacob Martin. Danny is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 36 years, Kathy Martin; his children, Shannon Martin Moncrief and her husband, Brad, Shelly Martin Cannon and her husband, Chad, Daniel Heath Martin and Brooke Martin Simmons; his grandchildren, Madilyn, Maddox and Myla Kate Moncrief, Skylar, Sullivan and Chaney Cannon, and Paxton Simmons. He is also survived by his brothers, Tim Nutt and his wife, Kim and Kevin Nutt and his wife, Corinne; his sister-in-law, Marie Chadwick Smith and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family members and friends. A private man, Danny was a good ole country boy and very proud of it. He loved the Lord, his church family and any type of physical, hard, outside work. He believed a “good day” was any day he accomplished that work, but his true passion in life was his family. He was the epitome of a “softball dad” who loved learning about and coaching his girls in softball. He took the time, making many personal sacrifices to be there for them pitching, practicing with and encouraging them. He could be seen always pacing the fence at softball games and cheering them on from an early age on the ballfield through college on the ballfield. Danny was an amazing husband, devoted father, grandfather and a true friend who loved with his whole being. He was genuine, without pretense. He was honest to a fault, was one of a kind and set in his ways, and he will be remembered for the tender way his face lit up when he saw family and those he loved. His life was well lived and he was well loved by those who were blessed with his friendship. Danny was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and his goal, after his retirement, was to be a part of the Texas Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief. Because of the importance of this to Danny and his desire to help, his family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Danny’s name to Texas Baptist Men at www.tbmtx.org The family would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to Texas Oncology, Heart to Heart Hospice and Home Roots Care Giving for the love and care shown to Danny. Funeral Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 2408 W. Pinecrest, Marshall, TX 75672. Graveside service will be private.
