Beloved stepfather, devoted uncle and treasured friend, Bennie Gene Hicks, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in Marshall, Texas. Bennie was born on October 26, 1931 in Avinger, Texas to Bruno Clinton Hicks and Ida Belle O’Neal Hicks. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Hicks; parents, Bruno and Ida Hicks; three sisters; two brothers; nephew, Lonnie Guffey, and his fur baby and constant companion, Little Dog. Bennie is survived by his stepson, David Lee Bell; nieces, Rhory Mason (Duane) and Charlotte Guffey; nephews, Jerry Craver (Debbie), Billy Ray Craver (Angela), Bo Ellis (Deon), and Belew Ellis (Naomi); special friends, Faye Whitlow and her family, as well as numerous other family and friends who loved him dearly.
Bennie proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and earning the rank of Corporal. He worked for many years for the City of Longview as a Plumber Inspector. Bennie loved being outdoors, especially spending time tending his garden and yard. His constant companion, Little Dog, was always near and he was heartbroken when she passed away. Bennie was an extremely sweet, generous man who was so easy to love. He enjoyed going to visit family and friends, but when he was ready to leave, he was ready to leave! Bennie was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
