Roger Scott Shipwash

October 11, 1949 ~ March 24, 2018 (age 68)
Beloved husband, cherished father and devoted grandfather, Roger Scott Shipwash, age 68, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Roger was born in Marshall, Texas on October 11, 1949 to Scotty and Floy Shipwash. He is preceded in death by his parents, Scotty and Floy Shipwash; his sister, Carolyn L. Beaird; his father-in-law, Marshall Campbell and his mother-in-law, Gwendolyn F. Campbell. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 39 years, Pamela Campbell Shipwash; his daughter, Christina Perry and her husband, Patrick; his son, Craig Shipwash and his wife, Angela; his grandchildren, Samantha Purvis, Alise Shipwash, Kyla Shipwash, Layla Shipwash; his great grandchildren, Lily Ann Purvis and Baby Maisy Mae Purvis who is due in June, 2018. Roger is also survived by his sister, Carla Richards; numerous other family members and friends who knew and loved him and his four legged furbaby, Chloe. Roger was a man of many talents who loved building things, enjoyed all projects, loved music, motorcycles, movies, collecting lighthouses and nutcrackers. He loved the beach and being around the water, but his true passion in life was his family. He attended River Crossing Cowboy Church and loved the Lord. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, receiving numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Expert Rifle, Air Medal with Numeral I and V Device. He was a Distinguished Graduate of Army Aircraft Maintenance, served with the 621st Aircraft Maintenance RPMN, attended U.S. Army Aviation School in Fort Rucker, Alabama, completed the Qualification Course, Class of 69 for Helicopter Door Gunner and received the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism in the Republic of Vietnam in August, 1970. Roger's life was well lived and he was well loved by all who were blessed with his friendship. The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to Overton-Brooks Veterans Medical Center; Roxana G. Baluna (Radiation/Oncology); Rupal B. Gambel (Primary Care Doctor VA); Philip A. Haddad (Chemo Doctor/Oncology/Hematologist); Heartsway Hospice, Amanda, Dara, Cindy, Barbara, Chaplain Martha and all their staff; River Crossing Cowboy Church, Bro. Pete and Shelly Sellers and to all who took time to express their care and concern during Roger's illness. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to River Crossing Cowboy Church in Roger's memory. Visitation for Roger will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 2:00pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home.
