Devoted husband, cherished father, beloved grandfather and friend of many, Pastor Glenn David Derr, Jr., age 70, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at his home in Marshall, Texas. He was born on June 3, 1949 in Corpus Christi, Texas, the only child of Glenn David Derr, Sr. and Maxine (Smith) Derr Slaten. He is preceded in death by his parents; his aunts and uncles, Henry Derr, Albert Derr, Dixie Derr, Melvin Derr, Iva Lee Stokes, Leola Stoops, Bill Derr, Everts Derr, Glenn Derr; his cousins, Gene Austin, Nancy Williams, Harmon “Bubba” Stoops, Sandy Stokes and Judy Williams. On June 22, 1974, Pastor Glenn married the love of his life, Patricia Ann “Patsy” Derr. Together they raised two sons, Glenn David Derr, III and Kelly Shawn Derr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patsy Derr; his sons, Glenn David Derr III and his wife, Hollie and Kelly Shawn Derr; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Kirsten Derr, Christian Derr, Cayden Derr, Keegan Derr, Kayson Derr, Kalani Derr; his cousins, Bobby Derr and his wife, Letty, Sam Shelton, Jim Shelton and his wife, Kathy, Sally Dixon, Dot Vrana, Robyn Lueck and her husband, Bill, Ginny Sue Fromlath and her husband, Gary, Nicole Karam and her husband, David, Mark Derr, David Derr, Jim Austin and his wife, Kathy, Nancy Miller and her husband, Ken, Brad Williams and his wife, Susie, John Ted Stokes and his wife, Lucy, Jean Stokes, and Patty Patrowski and her husband, Rich. He is also survived by numerous other family members and friends who were blessed by his life. Pastor Glenn proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he became an electrician under the guidance of his father. He pastored for 12 years in Marshall at The Bridge Church, formerly Church of God Prophecy, and remained as Associate Pastor until his death. Pastor Glenn was a Godly man who loved the Lord. He always made an impact in the life of others, always encouraging and loving with his kind ways. He collected guns and knives, and loved to play Wahoo, but his true passion in life was his family. A Celebration of Life Service with military honors will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 2:00pm at The Bridge Church, 2303 Norwood Street, Marshall, Texas with Pastor Gregg Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held immediately following the service from 3pm-4pm at The Bridge Church. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Grand Prairie, Texas.
