Greg Gary

September 24, 1966 ~ August 25, 2019 (age 52)

Greg Gary, age 52, passed away at his home in Karnack, Texas on Sunday, August 25, 2019 surrounded by his family.  He was born on September 24, 1966 in Marshall, Texas to Roderick and Dorothy Mae Gary.  Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Roderick “Dub” and Dorothy Gary; his sister, Bessie Simmons; his brother-in-law, J. W. Lee and his niece, Kelly Beason.  He is survived by his siblings, Julie Lee, Jo Dowhy and her husband, Bob, Gale Yohn and her husband, Steve, James “Buddy” Gary and his wife, Debbie; his nieces and nephews, Bill Beason and his wife, Staci, Lissa Busbey and her husband, Jeffrey, Jim Gary and his wife, Monni, Joe Gary and his wife, Amanda, Jack Gary and his wife, Stephanie; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Krista McKinley, Chance McKinley, Kayetlyn Hall and her husband, Nathan, Logan Busbey, Zoe Gary, Caroline Gary, Ben Gary, Sophia Gary, Connor Gary, Maddie Gary; his great-great-nephews and nieces, Beckham Hall, William McKinley, Kaylon McKinley, Jordan McKinley, Elizabeth McKinley, Jaxon McKinley; and numerous other special friends.  Greg was the former Fire Chief for ESD #3.  He also worked many years as a mechanic and jack of all trades.  He was known and loved for his cooking skills which meant he stood back and gave instructions to others on how to do it.  He was an honorable man who was affectionately known as the “King of Karnack”, a true jokester who loved hunting, fishing, drag racing and would give the shirt off his back to those in need.  His true passion in life was his family and his friends and he always opened his home, known as the “Sub Courthouse of Karnack” to welcome anyone who stopped in to visit.  Greg’s life was well lived, he was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed with his friendship. Greg’s family will be gathering at the home of Buddy and Debbie Gary, 1444 Dorough Road, Karnack, TX 75661.  Visitation for Greg will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 6-8pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home.  Funeral Service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 2:00pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home with Bro. James Duncan officiating.  Interment will follow at Andrews Cemetery in Karnack, Texas.  Pallbearers will be Jim Gary, Jack Gary, Logan Busbey, Chad Harless, Chaz Warren, Thomas Lay, Wes Rankin and Marty Hayner. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Sharma, Dr. Taylor and the staff at Longview, Texas Oncology and to Barb Ryder, Julie Chaler and the staff at Heartsway Hospice for the love and care given to Gary during his illness.  Online condolences may be offered at
