Ernest Russell Gaston Jr. known to friends and family as “Rusty” and as to his little ones as “Pappy”, passed away on July 4, 2019, at the age of 64 years after a lengthy battle with cancer and COPD.
Born April 22, 1955, Rusty was a native of Texas and proudly planted his roots in East Texas raising his family in Henderson for 26 years. He was a jack of trades and prided himself on teaching his daughters a little bit of carpentry, gardening, and even managed to teach one to drive a manual transmission. With a wonderful sense of humor, he entertained his grandchildren and often would ask them to pull his finger. His laugh was contagious and will truly be missed. He had a love for books, his baby dog “Widget”, and whole heartedly sought the word of Jesus Christ.
Rusty is preceded in death by his beloved sister Renie Gaston Wolfe and his mother Laura Pearl Baisden Sutton.
Those left to cherish his memories are his sisters and brother Stephanie Noack and husband Daniel of Paige,Texas and Natalie Ramos of Giddings,Texas, Jim Sutton and wife Linda of Cedar Hill, Donna Getro of Carthage, his daughters Laura Gaston of New Mexico, Erin Harris and husband Dennison of Longview, Jennifer Persons and husband Dusten of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Stephanie Costlow and husband David of Tyler, and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Rusty Gaston on July 16, 2019 at 4pm at Fellowship Baptist Church 1818 Spring Hill Road, Longview, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Lung Association, the American Cancer Association or Hearts Way Hospice.
