Dennis Neil Engdahl, age 75, passed away on July 27, 2019 in Shreveport, LA surrounded by his family.  Denny was born on August 19, 1943 to Earl Neil and Norma (Bennett) Engdahl.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Dustin Kaleb Engdahl; his brother, Earnest Jay "Bud" Engdahl and his great-nephew, Denny Wayne Engdahl.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Jo Ann Engdahl; his sons, Timothy Neil Engdahl and his wife, Mary Nilda and Kent Andrew Engdahl and his wife, Staci; his grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth, Timothy Neil, Jr., Shelbi Lynn, Lane Andrew and his wife, Brittani; his great-grandchildren, Finleigh Marie Hagar and Ayden Blake Engdahl.  Denny is also survived by his brother, Walter Scott Engdahl and his wife, Beverly; numerous nieces, nephews, family members, his four legged fur baby, Roscoe and cherished co-workers who he loved as family.  Denny’s life was well lived and he was well loved by all who were blessed with his friendship.  He never met a stranger, was a treasured mentor and a source of strength to all who considered everyone his friend. Denny attended and graduated from Niles High School in 1962 and joined the U. S. Navy Reserve during his junior year of high school.  Upon graduation from high school he reported to active duty, attending Boot Camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. Denny proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve for over 36 years.  He was the Harrison County Fire Marshal for 20 years, beginning August 21, 1989 and retired November 30, 2009.  He was a passionate and long serving Commander of the American Legion Post #14; he taught at Texas A&M at the fire school and also at Texas Eastman. He loved having a good time, making people laugh and always made time to mentor those who had a need.  He was known for conducting staff meetings with a positive “you sure did it right BUT….THIS is what you did wrong”.  He loved the time he spent on the lake boating, fishing, playing pool and darts but his true passion in life was his family.  Denny spent many years serving the Harrison County community wearing many hats and loving every minute of his life.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.  Visitation will be held at Meadowbrook Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 4-8pm.  Funeral Service with full Fireman Honors will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 6:30pm at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 501 Indian Springs Road, Marshall, Texas with Rev.
