Beloved husband, cherished father, devoted grandfather, brother and friend of many, Bobby Wayne Norwood, age 82, passed away in Longview, Texas on Monday, July 22, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 24, 1936 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Walter Henry and Emma (Whitten) Norwood. He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Ashton Norwood and numerous aunts and uncles. Bobby is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 45 years, Janice Lee (McCollum) Norwood; his children, Walter Henry Norwood and his wife, Diana, Pamela Norwood, Kimberly Norwood, Michael Brinkley and Richard Brinkley and his wife, Melanie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Casey Sherman and her husband, Nathan, Kelcey Norwood, Shelby Norwood, Melanie Brinkley, Stephen Brinkley, Kevin Brinkley and his wife, Amanda, Shannon Brinkley; his great-grandchildren, Jameson Sherman, Maverick Sherman, Grayson Norwood, Nora Brinkley; his sister, Beverly Holloway and her husband, Robert; his brothers, Walter Norwood, Roy Norwood and his wife, Betty, Rodney Norwood; his best friend who was like a brother, Harold Bridges and his wife, Enola Sue Bridges and his four legged fur-baby, Bella. Bobby is also survived by many other family members and friends who were blessed by his life. Bobby proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged when his father died to return home to help care for his mother and siblings. Through these times, he developed a close bond with his mother, that continued until her death, always being there for her to help in any way she may need. Bobby loved to tease and always had a nickname for everyone. He attended Joaquin High School where he excelled in football as a running back, earning the nickname of “The Greased Pig”. Bobby was a firefighter with the Shreveport Fire Department, worked at Thiokol, was a welder and fitter foreman, but spent the last 27 years of his career as co-owner, with his wife, of B-J Enterprises. He was always doing something, hunting, fishing or just spending time outdoors but his true passion in life was the time he spent with his wife and family. He was a member of the Baptist faith and loved his Lord. Bobby’s life was well lived; he was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 2:00pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home. A reception will be held in the Meadowbrook State Room immediately following the service. The family requests that you please share your favorite memory of Bobby on a special memory wreath that will be provided at the gathering.
