Wilma Jean Godfrey

Wilma Jean Godfrey was born August 2, 1947 in Marshall, Texas. She was the daughter of Benjamin Hill and Melissa Johnson-Tatum.

She passed away at her home in Marshall Sunday evening, January 6, 2013.

Wilma became a member of St. Mark Baptist Church at an early age. Later in life, she became a member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall.  She loved to go to church.

While at St. Mark, she met Nolan Godfrey. They were married on April 14, 1986 by Rev. W. S. McLane.

She retired from Norit America after eighteen years. Then she worked for MISD as a bus aide where she was able to spend time with the children she loved.

Wilma loved traveling and going to Walmart.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Nolan Godfrey of Marshall; two sons, Marvin Anderson and Benjamin Anderson; three sisters, Cecily (Wendell) Graves, Earline Harris and Shaylor Watson; two brothers, Roshern (LuAnne) Amie and Piarus (Donna) Tatum; one aunt, Emma Martin; five sisters-in-law, Margaret Carpenter, Shirley Smith, Phyllis Knight, Ruthie Foreman and Mable King; three brothers-in-law, Grover Godfrey, Willard Godfrey and Henry Young; several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Melissa Johnson-Tatum; sister, Phyllis Young and her brother, Calvin Amie.

Pallbearers: Willard Godfrey, Grover Godfrey, Willie Knight, John Smith, Lawrence Foreman, Newell Caldwell, Emory Johnson and Melvin Allen.

Funeral Services: 11:00am Thursday, January 10, 2013 Meadowbrook Funeral Home Chapel

Officiating: Rev. Duayne Taylor

Eugolist: Min. Reba Godfrey

Musician: Rita Cole

Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday, January 9, 2012 at the funeral home.

Interment: Powder Mill Cemetery in Marshall, TX.
